WSDM 2027 — The 20th ACM International Conference on Web Search and Data Mining
by ACM SIGWEB / ACM SIGIR
The 20th edition of ACM's search, recommendation and web-mining conference, with a new foundation models and agentic systems track
About This Event
WSDM 2027, the 20th ACM International Conference on Web Search and Data Mining, runs 15-19 February 2027 at Cordis, Hong Kong on Shanghai Street in Mong Kok. WSDM is the tightly-scoped counterpart to KDD and SIGIR: rather than covering all of data mining, it concentrates on search, recommendation, personalisation and the mining of web-scale behavioural data. The 2027 call for papers adds an explicit Foundation Models and Agentic Systems area alongside its long-running areas on web search, web mining and content analysis, social networks, intelligent assistants, crowdsourcing and human computation, information integrity, and privacy, fairness and interpretability. A Findings track admits methodologically solid work that does not clear the main track's selectivity bar. General chairs are Xiao Huang and Hongxia Yang (The Hong Kong Polytechnic University) and Yang Song (Meta); program chairs are Xia Hu (Shanghai AI Lab), James Caverlee (Texas A&M University) and Yi Chang (Jilin University).

Topics & Focus Areas
Who Should Attend
- ✓Heads of Search and Recommendation
- ✓Applied scientists and research engineers
- ✓ML platform and personalisation leads
- ✓Data science directors at consumer and marketplace companies
- ✓Trust and safety / information integrity teams
- ✓PhD students and academic researchers
Why Attend
If your company ranks anything — products, feeds, documents, support articles — WSDM is where the methods your team will be shipping in eighteen months are argued out first. The 2027 programme is the place to judge, from evidence rather than vendor decks, whether retrieval-augmented and agentic architectures actually beat the ranking stack you already run, and at what serving cost. It is small enough that a VP can meet the authors of the papers their team is citing, and Hong Kong in February puts an APAC research and engineering hiring pool in the same room.
Event Features
- ✓Main research track across ten declared areas including Foundation Models and Agentic Systems
- ✓Findings track for solid work below main-track selectivity
- ✓Web Search and Web Mining / Content Analysis areas
- ✓Privacy, Fairness and Interpretability area
- ✓Intelligent Assistants and Crowdsourcing / Human Computation areas
- ✓Information Integrity and Emerging & Creative Applications areas
What Makes This Unique
- ★The only top-tier ACM venue focused specifically on search and recommendation rather than data mining generally, so the whole programme is directly applicable to ranking and personalisation teams
- ★The 2027 call for papers names Foundation Models and Agentic Systems as a first-class research area, putting LLM-driven retrieval and agents in the main track rather than a side workshop
- ★Deliberately small and single-venue compared with KDD or SIGIR, which is what makes its hallway track and industry recruiting useful
- ★Runs a Findings track, so negative and replication-adjacent results that would be rejected elsewhere still get published and presented
- ★Chaired jointly out of Hong Kong PolyU, Meta, Shanghai AI Lab, Texas A&M and Jilin University — an unusually balanced industry/academic and East/West committee
