Mining for Meaning: Human Agency, Values, and Learning in the Age of AI. Held in Adelaide as part of the 2027 Festival of Learning.

About This Event

EDM 2027, the 20th International Conference on Educational Data Mining, takes place July 18-23, 2027 in Adelaide, Australia. It is part of the 2027 Festival of Learning, alongside the AIED (Artificial Intelligence in Education) conference and ACM Learning at Scale. The International Educational Data Mining Society runs it. Its 2027 theme, "Mining for Meaning: Human Agency, Values, and Learning in the Age of AI," asks researchers to model learner and teacher agency and to test whether AI systems can explain how people learn. Tracks cover generative and agentic AI in learning, educational recommenders, fairness and privacy, and teaching analytics. Full and short paper abstracts are due February 8, 2027 and papers February 15, 2027, with a JEDM journal track that closes in three rounds from November 2026. Sharon Hsiao (Santa Clara University) is general chair.

Why Attend

Anyone shipping AI tutors, copilots for learning, or skills analytics, whether at an EdTech company, a university or a corporate L&D function, will find the evidence base here: which learner models hold up, how generative AI changes what students actually learn, and how to measure fairness and privacy in educational AI. Because AIED and Learning at Scale share the same week, one Adelaide trip covers the three main research communities, and the industry track gives product teams a place to present results.

Event Features

  • ✓CFP area: Learning and Co-Adaptation with Generative and Agentic AI
  • ✓CFP area: AI as a Model of the Learner
  • ✓CFP area: Educational Recommenders and Agency-Aware Personalization
  • ✓CFP area: Equity, Fairness, Privacy, and Human Agency
  • ✓Industry papers track
  • ✓JEDM journal track with three cut-off rounds
  • ✓Doctoral consortium, posters and demos
  • ✓Co-located AIED 2027 and ACM Learning at Scale (Festival of Learning)

What Makes This Unique

  • ★The 20th edition of the main research venue for educational data mining, held as part of the Festival of Learning with AIED and ACM Learning at Scale, so three AI-in-education communities meet in one week.
  • ★The 2027 theme takes on generative and agentic AI directly, with a track on learning and co-adaptation with AI and one on whether AI can serve as a model of the learner.
  • ★Has an industry papers track (deadline February 15, 2027) and a JEDM journal track where accepted papers are also presented at the conference.
