AI-native mortgage loan origination system where staff and AI agents work the same loan file
Vesta is a cloud loan origination system (LOS) for banks, independent mortgage banks and fintech lenders, with AI agents built into the workflow. Lenders choose which tasks agents handle (document review, data validation, condition clearing, underwriting decisions), and staff take the exceptions, which cuts the labor that makes up most of a mortgage's cost.
Vesta is a mortgage loan origination system founded in 2020 by Mike Yu (CEO) and Devon Yang, both formerly at Blend, and based in San Francisco. It is built on an open architecture and APIs, with configurable workflows that admins change without engineering help, more than 100 prebuilt integrations across pricing, credit, automated underwriting, mortgage insurance, documents and income and employment verification, and connections to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Its main difference from incumbent systems such as ICE Mortgage Technology is that people and AI agents work in the same loan file. Lenders configure agents for document review, data validation, cross-checks, condition clearing, closing package review and, at some lenders, underwriting decisions; agents log their actions and reasoning for compliance and escalate anything that needs a human. Many customers start with a person approving agent work and then let agents run some loans on their own. Pennymac went live in September 2025 in its Consumer Direct channel, took a minority stake and later reported a 25% drop in its operational cost to originate. Other named customers include New American Funding, NBKC, AFN, Upstart and Valon. On October 8, 2026 Vesta raised a $30 million Series B led by Conversion Capital, bringing total funding to $85 million, and said agents now handle about 40% of tasks on the platform, revenue is up 12x year over year, and its lenders originate more than $100 billion a year while it still holds under 5% market share.
The COO or head of mortgage operations at a bank, IMB or fintech lender who is due to replace a legacy LOS and wants agent automation built into the new one.
Lower cost to originate, with agents doing document review, validation and condition clearing inside the system of record.

Key Features
- ✓Shared human and agent loan file
Staff and AI agents work the same loan in one system, so no automation layer has to keep a legacy LOS in sync.
- ✓Configurable AI agents
Lenders choose which tasks agents take (document review, validation, condition clearing, underwriting) and how much autonomy each gets.
- ✓Decision logging and escalation
Every agent action and its reasoning is logged for compliance and AI audits, and exceptions are routed to people.
- ✓No-code workflow rules
Admins change routing, automated actions and quality checks without engineering work, so process changes ship in days rather than release cycles.
- ✓100+ prebuilt integrations
Connections across pricing, credit, AUS, PMI, documents and VOE/VOI, plus Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, cover the standard origination stack.
- ✓In-product AI assistants
Assistants answer questions and take actions inside the LOS, which saves loan officers and processors from hunting through files.
Capabilities
Use Cases
- •Automated document review
Agents read borrower documents, validate data against the application and flag mismatches, so processors handle only the exceptions.
- •Condition clearing before closing
Agents clear routine underwriting conditions and review closing packages, which shortens the roughly 40-day path to close.
- •Phased agent autonomy
A lender starts with humans approving every agent action, then lets agents run selected loan types alone once accuracy is proven.
- •LOS replacement for a consumer-direct channel
A large lender moves its direct-to-consumer channel onto Vesta first, as Pennymac did, before extending it to correspondent and TPO channels.
Ideal For
Best For
- ✓Lenders replacing a legacy loan origination system and willing to run a full migration
- ✓Consumer-direct mortgage channels with high volume and repeatable document checks
- ✓Operations teams that want to raise agent autonomy step by step, from human-approved to fully automated tasks
- ✓Lenders that need an audit trail of every automated decision for compliance and AI audits
Not Ideal For
- ✗Lenders that only want to add AI on top of their current LOS: Vesta is a replacement system, and migrating a core platform takes a long time and carries risk
- ✗Non-mortgage lenders, since the workflows and integrations are built for US residential mortgage origination
- ✗Shops that need published pricing before talking to sales

Market Analysis
Pros
- ✓Proven at scale with Pennymac, which replaced its prior origination system and reported a 25% lower operational cost to originate
- ✓Agents are logged and escalate to humans, which fits how regulated lenders need to audit automated decisions
- ✓Customers chose to invest, a stronger signal than a logo slide
- ✓Broad integration catalog, including both GSEs
Cons
- ✗It is a full LOS replacement, so adopting it means a core-system migration, unlike agent tools that sit on top of an existing LOS
- ✗Under 5% market share by its own CEO's estimate, so the partner ecosystem and implementation talent are thinner than for incumbents
- ✗Headline metrics are company-reported, and HousingWire notes Pennymac's ~50% loan officer efficiency gain was measured before AI agents were switched on
- ✗No G2, Capterra or Hacker News reviews, so there is no independent practitioner feedback
