AI work assistants ("Townies") for every employee that handle email, calendar and routine work, and now hand tasks to each other across a team
Town is an AI work assistant that gives each employee a personal agent, called a Townie, connected to their email, calendar, chat and work apps. It is for small and mid-sized teams that want inbox triage, meeting prep and scheduling handled for them, with assistants that can pass questions and tasks to each other.
Town is a San Francisco company, co-founded by former Plaid CTO Jean-Denis Greze (CEO) and Tony Vincent, that sells AI work assistants called Townies. Each user's Townie gets its own @town.com address and connects to Gmail or Outlook, Google Calendar, Slack, iMessage, Zoom, Google Docs and Drive, Notion, HubSpot, Salesforce, Asana, Linear, GitHub, QuickBooks Online, Brex, Ramp and any MCP server. It learns the user's people, projects and writing voice, keeps an editable wiki of how they work, and runs routines such as inbox triage, morning and audio briefings, meeting briefings and person research. By default a Townie asks before sending anything important. Town left beta in June 2026 with a $55M Series A led by Andreessen Horowitz. On October 19, 2026 it announced a $108M Series B at a $1B valuation, co-led by Forerunner Ventures and Menlo Ventures, with a16z and First Round Capital returning; TechCrunch puts total funding at $160M or more. The same announcement added team features: Townies can ask each other questions, hand off tasks, share only what their user would share, and contact customers, partners and candidates outside the company by email and text, while a shared workflow update reaches every teammate's Townie at once. Town reports thousands of businesses using it daily, paying customers up fourfold and paying teams ninefold since July 2026, and seven-figure ARR within weeks of launch; these are company figures. It is SOC 2 Type 2 audited, hosts data in the US on Convex and AWS, does not train on connected data by default, and routes each task to a model from one of several major labs. It competes with Lindy, Fyxer, Superhuman Mail and Gemini in Gmail.
Founders, operations leads and team managers at small and mid-sized companies whose staff lose hours a day to email, scheduling and meeting prep across Google or Microsoft tools.
Each person gets an assistant that triages their inbox, drafts replies, preps meetings and coordinates with teammates' assistants, with approval required before anything important is sent.

Key Features
- ✓Personal Townie assistant
Each user gets an assistant with its own @town.com address that learns their contacts, projects and writing voice from connected email and docs.
- ✓Routines
Scheduled or event-triggered automations such as inbox triage, morning briefings, meeting briefings, weekly schedule suggestions and GitHub reports; unlimited custom routines start on Pro.
- ✓Assistant-to-assistant collaboration
Townies can ask each other questions and hand off tasks across a team, sharing only what each user would share and escalating decisions.
- ✓External communication
Since October 2026, Townies can email and text customers, partners and candidates outside the company, for example to arrange meetings.
- ✓Shared team workflows
Town Teams lets an admin update a process once and have the change reach every member's Townie, with team integrations, skills and access rules.
- ✓Broad integrations including MCP
Connects to Gmail, Outlook, Slack, Zoom, Google Workspace, Notion, HubSpot, Salesforce, Linear, GitHub, QuickBooks, Brex, Ramp and any MCP server.
- ✓Approval by default
Townies ask before sending anything important unless the user changes it, and users control what each assistant can see, share and do.
Capabilities
Use Cases
- •Inbox triage and drafting
A Townie sorts incoming mail, drafts replies in the user's voice and holds them for approval, cutting daily email handling time.
- •Meeting preparation
Before each meeting the assistant builds a briefing from email history, calendar context and person research so the user walks in prepared.
- •Cross-team handoffs
One employee's Townie asks a colleague's Townie for a status or a document, getting an answer without either person writing the message.
- •External scheduling
A recruiter's Townie emails or texts candidates to find interview times and books them, leaving the recruiter only the final confirmation.
- •Rolling out a process change
A sales lead updates the call-prep workflow once and every rep's assistant starts following the new steps the same day.
Ideal For
Best For
- ✓Executives and founders who want daily inbox triage and drafted replies in their own writing voice
- ✓Sales and recruiting teams that need meeting briefings and person research before every call
- ✓Small teams that want one routine change (for example sales call prep) pushed to everyone's assistant at once
- ✓Companies already on Gmail or Outlook plus Slack, HubSpot or Salesforce that want one assistant across all of them
- ✓Teams that want assistants to schedule with outside customers, partners and candidates by email or text
Not Ideal For
- ✗Organisations that need predictable AI spend: usage is metered in credits, Town does not publish what each action costs, and team credit pools have no per-member caps, so one heavy user can drain them
- ✗Regulated enterprises that need non-US data residency or published SSO/SCIM controls; Town hosts in the US and its pricing page does not list identity features
- ✗Shared support inboxes; the Front integration needs each teammate to connect their own account and every send, tag and assignment waits for approval

Market Analysis
Pros
- ✓Published per-plan pricing with a permanent free tier and a 7-day Pro trial
- ✓SOC 2 Type 2 audited, no training on connected data by default, and approval before important sends
- ✓Wide integration list covering Google, Microsoft, Slack, CRM, finance and developer tools, plus MCP
- ✓Team features let assistants hand work to each other and push one workflow change to everyone
Cons
- ✗Credit metering is opaque: Town does not publish the credit cost of an action, and its docs call a routine that runs on every incoming email the heaviest setup (eesel, October 2026)
- ✗Team credit pools have no per-member caps, so a single heavy user can exhaust a team's allowance
- ✗Starter limits custom routines to once a day and new-email triggers need Pro or higher; there are no refunds on cancellation
- ✗The product launched publicly only in June 2026, and growth and ARR figures are company-reported, not independently verified

Town publishes individual list prices: Free, Starter at $15/mo (monthly only), then Pro $49, Power $99 and Power Plus $199 per user per month billed annually, with annual billing saving 20%. Every plan is metered in credits; overage runs $0.030 to $0.044 per credit by plan, but the overage cap defaults to $0, so it must be raised first. New users get a 7-day Pro trial. Team seat prices are not on Town's page (a third-party October 2026 guide lists $59 and $149 per seat), there are no refunds, and Enterprise is custom.
