MSR 2027 — International Conference on Mining Software Repositories
by ACM SIGSOFT / IEEE (co-located with ICSE 2027)
The premier venue for software analytics — mining engineering data with data science and machine learning
About This Event
MSR 2027, the International Conference on Mining Software Repositories, runs 26-27 April 2027 at The Convention Centre Dublin, co-located with ICSE 2027 in Dublin, Ireland. MSR is the premier venue for software analytics research, where software engineering data is analysed using a combination of data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence, and qualitative methods. The work presented mines version control systems, defect trackers, code reviews, CI servers and other development data to understand how software is actually built, to support maintenance, and to validate new techniques against real projects rather than toy examples. The 2027 programme runs a Technical Papers track, a Data and Tool Showcase track, an Industry track and the long-running Mining Challenge. Technical paper abstracts are due 20 October 2026, papers 23 October 2026, and acceptance notifications land 8 January 2027.

Topics & Focus Areas
Who Should Attend
- ✓Software engineering researchers and data scientists
- ✓Developer productivity and DevEx leads
- ✓Engineering managers and directors of engineering
- ✓Platform and DevOps engineering teams
- ✓Teams building ML models over code and engineering data
- ✓PhD students in empirical software engineering
Why Attend
Every engineering organisation already sits on the data MSR studies — commits, pull requests, code reviews, CI runs, incident and defect history — and almost none of it is used to make decisions. MSR is where the techniques for turning that exhaust into evidence get published and, through the Data and Tool Showcase, released as usable artifacts. For a VP of Engineering or a head of developer productivity, two days here is the fastest way to see which developer-productivity and code-quality metrics actually survive empirical scrutiny, which ML-over-code approaches generalise beyond one company, and what tooling can be adopted rather than rebuilt.
Event Features
- ✓Technical Papers track
- ✓Data and Tool Showcase track
- ✓Industry track
- ✓Mining Challenge on a shared dataset
- ✓Co-located with ICSE 2027 at The Convention Centre Dublin
- ✓Author response period for technical papers (4-8 December 2026)
What Makes This Unique
- ★The Mining Challenge puts every team on one shared dataset, so competing techniques are compared on identical data instead of each paper's hand-picked corpus
- ★The Data and Tool Showcase track treats datasets and tooling as first-class publishable artifacts, which is why MSR is where reusable engineering datasets tend to originate
- ★Explicitly combines data science, machine learning/AI and qualitative methods — findings come with the human context, not just a model score
- ★Co-located with ICSE 2027 at The Convention Centre Dublin, so the analytics community and the broader software engineering community are in one venue in one week
