ICAART 2027 — 19th International Conference on Agents and Artificial Intelligence
by INSTICC — Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication
Agents and AI as two formal conference areas, with explainability and LLMs foregrounded
About This Event
ICAART 2027, the 19th International Conference on Agents and Artificial Intelligence, takes place 23-25 February 2027 at the Grand Hotel Excelsior on Great Siege Road in Floriana, Malta. Sponsored by INSTICC, it is organised as two formal areas: Agents, covering agents, multi-agent systems and software platforms, and Artificial Intelligence, covering knowledge representation, planning, learning, scheduling and perception. Application emphasis this edition falls on natural language processing, large language models, legal technologies and quantum computing, with a stated focus on explainable and interpretable AI and on trustworthiness, fairness, privacy, safety, security and ethical issues. The conference chair is H. Jaap van den Herik (Leiden University), with programme co-chairs Ana Paula Rocha (University of Porto) and Mattias Wahde (Chalmers University). It is held in conjunction with ICISSP 2027, PHOTOPTICS 2027, VISAPP 2027 and GRIVAPP 2027.

Why Attend
Agentic AI is on every enterprise roadmap and has been rigorously evaluated by almost nobody. ICAART is one of the few venues that treats multi-agent systems as an engineering discipline with two decades of prior art behind it rather than as a 2026 product category, and this edition pairs that with explainability, trustworthiness and legal technology. For an architect or head of AI platform deciding how to structure agent orchestration, authorisation, hand-off and audit, three days in Malta is a considerably cheaper way to find the known failure modes than discovering them in production, and the co-located security and vision conferences widen the same trip.
Event Features
- ✓Agents area: agents, multi-agent systems and software platforms

- ✓Application focus on large language models and natural language processing
- ✓Application focus on legal technologies
- ✓Application focus on quantum computing
- ✓Workshops and special sessions (submission round closing 3 December 2026)
- ✓Co-located with ICISSP 2027, PHOTOPTICS 2027, VISAPP 2027 and GRIVAPP 2027
What Makes This Unique
- ★Split into two formal areas — Agents, and Artificial Intelligence — so multi-agent systems research is a first-class half of the conference rather than a side track.
- ★This edition explicitly foregrounds explainable and interpretable AI, and trustworthiness, fairness, privacy, safety, security and ethical issues.
- ★Held in conjunction with ICISSP 2027, PHOTOPTICS 2027, VISAPP 2027 and GRIVAPP 2027, putting security, optics, vision and graphics research in the same week.
- ★Two submission rounds — a regular-paper deadline on 15 September 2026 and a position/regular-paper deadline on 22 October 2026 — plus a separate workshop and special-session round closing 3 December 2026.
- ★Chaired by H. Jaap van den Herik (Leiden University) with programme co-chairs from the University of Porto and Chalmers University.
