About This Event

FLAIRS-40, the 40th International Florida Artificial Intelligence Research Society Conference, takes place May 24-27, 2027 at the TradeWinds Resort in St. Pete Beach, Florida. It is a peer-reviewed, double-blind general AI conference whose call covers foundations (knowledge representation, reasoning, learning, multimodal AI, foundation models), architectures (agents, generative AI and LLMs, information retrieval, robotics, AI safety and alignment, edge AI), applications from aviation and medicine to finance and legal tech, and the implications of AI, including explainability, evaluation, governance and fairness. Papers are accepted as full (6 pages, 20-minute talk), short (4 pages, 10-minute talk) or 2-page posters, and proceedings are published by Florida Online Journals and indexed in DBLP and Scopus. The program co-chairs are Clayton Peterson (Universite du Quebec a Trois-Rivieres) and Chris Alvin (Furman University).

  • ✓AI researchers

  • ✓Applied machine learning engineers
  • ✓University faculty teaching AI
  • ✓Industry R&D scientists
  • ✓AI governance and ethics researchers

Why Attend

FLAIRS is a research venue, so the value for a technology leader is sourcing rather than vendor evaluation. Its call puts RAG, LLM evaluation, explainable AI and AI governance next to applied work in finance, medicine and legal tech, which makes it a compact place to meet university groups doing applied research you could fund or hire from. A team with an internal applied-AI result can also publish it here, with an abstract due January 22, 2027 and indexed proceedings.

Event Features

  • ✓Foundations area: knowledge representation, reasoning, learning, multimodal AI and foundation models
  • ✓Architectures area: agents, generative AI and LLMs, information retrieval, robotics, AI safety and alignment, edge AI
  • ✓Applications area: aviation and aerospace, medicine, finance and fintech, agriculture, climate modeling, legal tech
  • ✓Implications area: explainable AI, evaluation of AI systems, AI governance and policy, bias and fairness
  • ✓Special areas including RAG, applied NLP, case-based reasoning, intelligent tutoring systems, uncertain reasoning and AI for scientific discovery
  • ✓Tutorial program with two proposal rounds (December 2026 and March 2027)
  • ✓Poster session for 2-page poster papers

What Makes This Unique

  • ★Fortieth edition of a long-running general AI conference, so the call spans the whole field instead of one subdiscipline.
  • ★Three paper formats (full, short, 2-page poster) with a second poster round in March, which gives late or early-stage work a route in.
  • ★Explicit application areas in aviation, finance, agriculture, climate modeling and legal tech alongside core methods.
  • ★Proceedings indexed in DBLP and Scopus, and one author registration covers up to two papers.
