AutoML 2026 — International Conference on Automated Machine Learning
by AutoML Conference (local hosts: University of Ljubljana and Jožef Stefan Institute)
The research conference dedicated to automating machine learning — from hyperparameter search to LLM-agent AutoML
About This Event
AutoML 2026, the International Conference on Automated Machine Learning, takes place September 28 – October 1, 2026 at the Faculty of Computer and Information Science of the University of Ljubljana in Ljubljana, Slovenia. It is the one peer-reviewed venue devoted entirely to automating the machine learning pipeline: neural architecture search, hyperparameter and black-box optimization, algorithm configuration, benchmarking, and increasingly the use of LLM agents and code evolution to design ML systems. The programme combines a main paper track (including the ABCD track), a Hot-off-the-Press track for recently published work, late-breaking abstracts, tutorials and workshops, and a neural architecture search competition. Keynotes come from Stanford's Jure Leskovec on relational foundation models, Google DeepMind's Alex Vitvitskyi, CNRS–Sorbonne's Carola Doerr, Leiden's Niki van Stein and HireEZ AI's Steven Jiang. General chair is Tome Eftimov; programme chairs are Atlas Wang, Elena Raponi and Lars Kotthoff.

Topics & Focus Areas
Who Should Attend
- ✓ML engineers and MLOps leads
- ✓Heads of data science
- ✓AI research scientists
- ✓ML platform architects
- ✓CTOs evaluating AutoML platforms
- ✓Graduate researchers in optimization and ML
Why Attend
For a VP of data science or ML platform lead, AutoML is where the build-versus-buy question for automated model development gets answered on evidence rather than vendor demos. Sessions on relational foundation models and LLM-agent-driven pipeline design show which parts of the modelling workflow are close to automatable, which benchmarks are trustworthy, and where tuning budgets are wasted. The small single-venue format puts engineering leads in the same room as the researchers behind the open-source optimisers their teams already run.
Event Features
- ✓Main paper track, including the ABCD track
- ✓Hot-off-the-Press track for recently published AutoML work
- ✓Late-Breaking Abstracts track
- ✓Tutorials and workshops programme
- ✓Neural architecture search (NAS) competition
- ✓Keynote: 'Beyond the Table: Relational Foundation Models as the New Frontier of AutoML' (Jure Leskovec, Stanford)
- ✓Keynote: 'AutoML for Black-Box Optimization' (Carola Doerr)
- ✓Keynote: 'Rethinking AutoML Through Code Evolution' (Niki van Stein)
What Makes This Unique
- ★The only peer-reviewed conference devoted solely to AutoML, rather than a workshop inside NeurIPS or ICML
- ★Keynotes span foundation models on relational data (Leskovec), black-box optimization (Doerr) and LLM-agent/code-evolution approaches (van Stein, Jiang) — the current frontier of automated model building
- ★Runs its own neural architecture search competition with staged runs on the organisers' systems
- ★Flat-rate registration that bundles lunches, two social events and city transport, with a dedicated industry tier
