SAP Business AI Platform is SAP's umbrella for enterprise AI. It brings together Joule, Joule Studio, the generative AI hub in SAP AI Core, the SAP Knowledge Graph, Business Data Cloud and the SAP AI Agent Hub. It lets SAP customers run and build AI agents that work on their own ERP, finance, supply chain, HR and CX data and processes.
SAP Business AI Platform is the name SAP CEO Christian Klein gave, at SAP Sapphire in May 2026, to the company's unified AI architecture for what SAP calls the 'Autonomous Enterprise'. SAP describes it in three layers. The context layer combines SAP Business Technology Platform, SAP Business Data Cloud and AI Foundation. That includes the SAP Knowledge Graph, new SAP Domain Models trained on SAP code, the proprietary SAP-ABAP-1 and SAP-RPT-1 models, and the generative AI hub in SAP AI Core. The hub gives governed access to third-party frontier models: SAP's release notes list OpenAI GPT-5 variants, Google Gemini 3.x and Anthropic Claude Opus 4.6/4.7, with Anthropic Claude named at Sapphire as a primary reasoning model for Joule. The build layer is Joule Studio 2.0. It offers intent-based agent development, a VS Code extension and CLI, support for LangChain, Pydantic AI and LlamaIndex, n8n and Vercel integrations, sandboxed runtime on NVIDIA OpenShell and persistent agent memory in SAP HANA Cloud. The governance layer is the SAP AI Agent Hub, built on SAP LeanIX. SAP scheduled it for Q3 2026 at no additional cost, to discover, verify, observe and set policy for SAP and third-party agents. Joule is the shared front end, and Joule Work acts as a natural-language 'front door' across SAP and non-SAP systems. SAP's Q1 2026 figures were 30+ specialised agents, 2,500+ Joule Skills and 35 solutions with Joule embedded. At Sapphire it announced the Autonomous Suite, with 200+ agents and 50+ Joule Assistants across finance, spend, supply chain, HCM and CX. Named customers include H&M, Takeda, Bosch Digital and Novartis. SAP competes here with ServiceNow, Salesforce, Microsoft, Workday and AWS. Its argument is that its business data and process context is the moat.

SAP publishes no list price. Model calls convert to AI Units, and platform services draw on BTP Capacity Units and BDC Credits, so there are three consumption pools. A 10-message Joule conversation is estimated at 5,000-20,000 tokens, and custom agents at 3-20x the consumption of embedded features. Joule Studio design-time is free through 2026, but production runtime needs a separate licence. AI access is contractually tied to RISE/GROW.
