AI-native requirements management and systems-engineering agents for hardware teams
Flow Engineering is an AI-native requirements management and systems-engineering platform for hardware teams in aerospace, automotive, defense, robotics and energy. Its AI agents keep requirements aligned with CAD, simulation, code and test results, so engineers stop maintaining traceability by hand in spreadsheets or legacy tools like IBM DOORS.
Flow Engineering builds a living system of record for physical-product development. Requirements, interfaces, designs and tests sit in a connected systems graph, and engineers propose changes on git-style branches with diffs and merges. AI agents work across that graph. An Impact Analysis Agent evaluates each change across its dependencies, a Mass, Cost and Power Budget Agent tracks resource allocations, and a Safety and Regulatory Compliance Agent checks standards on every change. Teams can also build custom agents. According to Contrary Research, the agents can write and decompose requirements, generate tests, create tickets and update downstream documentation, using a routing LLM to select context. Flow integrates with CAD (Dassault, Siemens NX, Autodesk Fusion 360, SolidWorks), simulation (ANSYS, Abaqus), test (LabVIEW, TestStand, dSPACE), GitHub, Jira and Microsoft tools. It is SOC 2 Type II certified, ITAR/EAR aligned and NIST 800-171 compliant, and deploys in the cloud, in AWS GovCloud or self-hosted. Flow grew out of founder Pari Singh's rocket-engine consultancy. It entered private beta in February 2023 and shipped the AI-native Flow v3 in June 2026. Customers include Rivian, which Contrary reports expanded from 40 to 1,500 users and manages over a million requirements in Flow, plus Joby Aviation, Anduril, Astranis, Stoke Space and Skydio. Sequoia led a $23M Series A in October 2025, and Valor Equity Partners and Atreides Management co-led a $50M Series B at a $750M valuation in September 2026. Flow competes with Jama Connect, IBM DOORS, Siemens Polarion and Valispace.
A VP of Engineering or head of systems engineering at a fast-moving hardware company (eVTOL, space, EV, defense, robotics) whose requirements live in spreadsheets or a legacy DOORS/Jama instance that engineers avoid.
Requirements stay automatically aligned with CAD, simulation and test data, and agents flag the downstream impact of every design change.

Key Features
- ✓Connected systems graph
Links requirements, interfaces, designs and tests in one live model, so traceability is maintained automatically rather than in spreadsheets.
- ✓Impact Analysis Agent
Evaluates every proposed change across its dependencies and flags conflicts before they propagate into designs and tests.
- ✓Mass, Cost and Power Budget Agent
Continuously tracks resource budgets across subsystems so teams see when a design change breaks a mass, cost or power allocation.
- ✓Safety and Regulatory Compliance Agent
Checks each change against applicable safety and regulatory standards, cutting manual compliance review in regulated industries.
- ✓Branch-and-merge change workflow
Engineers propose requirement changes on branches with diffs and review, bringing git-style change control to hardware development.
- ✓Engineering tool integrations
Connects to Siemens NX, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, ANSYS, Abaqus, LabVIEW, dSPACE, GitHub and Jira, so agents work on real engineering data.
Capabilities
Use Cases
- •Vehicle requirements at scale
Rivian manages more than one million hardware and software requirements in Flow after expanding from 40 to 1,500 users in four months.
- •Design change impact
When a CAD part or simulation result changes, agents identify which requirements, tests and budgets are affected and propose updates.
- •Regulated aerospace certification
eVTOL and space teams keep requirement-to-test traceability current for regulators instead of reconstructing it before audits.
- •Defense programmes on GovCloud
Defense contractors run Flow in ITAR-compliant AWS GovCloud to manage controlled technical requirements with full audit trails.
Ideal For
Best For
- ✓Agile hardware programmes in aerospace, eVTOL and space launch
- ✓Automotive and EV teams managing very large requirement sets across hardware and software
- ✓Defense contractors needing ITAR-aligned requirements traceability in AWS GovCloud
- ✓Replacing spreadsheet-based requirements and verification tracking
- ✓Automated change-impact analysis across CAD, simulation and test tools
Not Ideal For
- ✗Pure software teams; Flow is built around physical-product requirements, CAD and test integrations
- ✗Legacy primes deeply embedded in DOORS or PLM-suite certification workflows, where migration and supplier dependencies slow adoption (Contrary Research)
- ✗Very small teams with light requirements; Basic starts at $150 per editor per month and caps at 500 requirements and one project
Deployment
Market Analysis
Pros
- ✓G2 reviewers describe it as a refreshing, easier alternative to Jama or IBM DOORS that teams adopt without training
- ✓Marquee hardware customers including Rivian, Joby Aviation, Anduril, Astranis and Stoke Space
- ✓Strong compliance posture for defense: SOC 2 Type II, ITAR/EAR alignment, NIST 800-171, GovCloud and self-hosted options
- ✓Transparent per-editor list pricing with a free trial
Cons
- ✗Value depends on keeping many CAD, simulation and test integrations in sync, and Contrary Research flags integration maintenance as a key risk
- ✗Legacy aerospace and defense organisations with certification workflows tied to DOORS or PLM suites may find migration slow
- ✗Small company (about 25 staff in June 2026, per Contrary) scaling fast, so buyers should test support depth and roadmap stability
- ✗Basic and Pro tiers cap requirements and projects, and SSO/SAML is Enterprise-only

Flow publishes list pricing per editor per month: Basic at $150 (500 requirements, 1 project) and Pro at $300 (5,000 requirements, 5 projects). Viewer licences are separate from editor seats. SSO/SAML, GovCloud, unlimited scale and custom integrations are Enterprise-only at custom pricing. A free trial is offered. Contrary Research reports the company plans to move toward usage-based, token-consumption pricing as agents do more of the work.
