Alation AIOS is an intelligence operating system that unifies Alation's data catalog, lineage, data quality, semantic context, AI governance and Agent Studio so enterprises can build, register and audit AI agents on trusted data. It is aimed at chief data officers and governance teams who must prove which agents used which data, under which policy.

Alation AIOS (Alation Intelligence Operating System) is the data-catalog pioneer's repositioning of its platform as the governed layer underneath enterprise AI agents. Launched on July 14, 2026, it joins three layers Alation previously sold as separate capabilities: a data layer (catalog, column-level lineage, quality trust scores and AI-assisted curation across 120+ connectors), a context layer (certified data products, a marketplace, ontologies and ingested BI semantic models), and an agents layer (native agents grounded in certified metadata plus Agent Studio for building and evaluating agents before production). A governance wrapper registers models and agents, maps them to compliance obligations and enforces policies across every layer, while feedback loops route corrections back to whichever layer (data, context or model) caused a failure. AIOS is deliberately open: it supports MCP, OpenLineage, OWL, RDF, SHACL, SCIM, SAML and OAuth, lets customers bring GPT, Claude, open-source or custom models, and serves agents built in Claude Code, n8n, Microsoft 365, Copilot, Snowflake or Gemini. On September 17, 2026, at its revAlation event, Alation added six components: AI Governance with agent lineage tracing and regulatory-risk visibility, Console, Governed Collections for unstructured policy documents, Intelligent Feeds, Ontologies, and Semantic Model Mastering for Databricks and Snowflake semantic models, plus native registry connectors for Amazon Bedrock, Amazon SageMaker, Databricks MLflow, Microsoft Copilot Studio, Microsoft Foundry and Snowflake Cortex. Per the press release, AI Governance and Semantic Model Mastering enhancements are available now and the other four are in early access with no announced GA date.
