About This Event

SANER 2027, the IEEE International Conference on Software Analysis, Evolution and Reengineering, runs 9-12 March 2027 at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. SANER is the premier event on the theory and practice of recovering information from existing software and systems: it covers how teams extract information from code that is already in production, renew ageing systems, understand unfamiliar programs, and improve maintainability over time. The 2027 edition adds a dedicated Agentic AI4SE track alongside the Research, Early Research Achievements, Industrial, RENE, Tool Demonstration, Registered Report and Workshops tracks, putting autonomous coding agents in the same programme as the maintenance and reengineering research they will have to operate on. Research Track abstracts are due 21 September 2026 and full papers 25 September 2026, with acceptance notifications on 1 December 2026.

Why Attend

Most enterprise engineering spend goes on software that already exists, and SANER is the one top-tier venue organised entirely around that problem: comprehension, analysis, migration and reengineering of long-lived systems. For a CTO or VP of Engineering deciding how far to trust coding agents on a legacy estate, the 2027 Agentic AI4SE track is the place where those claims get evaluated against real codebases rather than benchmarks. The Industrial Track and Tool Demonstrations show what is close to production, and the Registered Report track means the empirical results presented were designed before anyone knew the answer.

Event Features

  • Research Track — full papers on software analysis, evolution and reengineering
  • Agentic AI4SE Track — agentic AI applied to software engineering
  • Industrial Track for practitioner experience reports
  • Early Research Achievements (ERA) Track
  • RENE Track (reproducibility studies and negative results)
  • Tool Demonstration Track
  • Registered Report Track
  • Workshops and Tutorials programme

What Makes This Unique

  • Runs a dedicated Agentic AI4SE track — a formal research venue for autonomous coding agents applied to real maintenance and reengineering work, not a vendor demo slot
  • Industrial Track exists specifically to bring practitioners and researchers together to exchange challenges, solutions and results on production systems
  • Registered Report track: study designs are reviewed and accepted before results exist, which raises the evidentiary bar on the empirical claims presented
  • Focused entirely on software that already exists — the legacy, migration and comprehension problems that dominate real enterprise engineering budgets
  • Hosted by the Software Engineering Center at Virginia Commonwealth University, on the US East Coast
