ACM MMSys 2027 — 18th ACM Multimedia Systems Conference
by ACM SIGMM
The systems conference for video, streaming and multimedia AI at scale
About This Event
ACM MMSys 2027, the 18th ACM Multimedia Systems Conference, runs 30 March to 2 April 2027 in Ghent, Belgium, together with its associated workshops. MMSys is the systems-side counterpart to ACM Multimedia: rather than new models, it publishes the infrastructure that makes multimedia work at scale, spanning networking, operating systems, real-time systems, databases, distributed computing, computer vision and artificial intelligence. It is CORE A ranked and runs four distinct submission tracks — research papers, workshop proposals, special sessions, and a dedicated open-source software and datasets track that is unusual among top venues and is why so many reference streaming stacks and video datasets originate here. Research track submissions are handled through HotCRP with paper registration on 10 September 2026 and full submission a week later.

Topics & Focus Areas
Who Should Attend
- ✓VP of Engineering at streaming and media platforms
- ✓Video infrastructure and CDN architects
- ✓Heads of media AI and computer vision platforms
- ✓Distributed systems and real-time systems leads
- ✓Telco and network engineering leaders
- ✓Multimedia systems researchers
- ✓XR and immersive media engineering leaders
Why Attend
Video is the single largest cost line in most consumer platforms and increasingly the largest input to enterprise AI pipelines, and the engineering that governs both — adaptive delivery, real-time processing, storage tiering, dataset construction — is published at MMSys before it becomes a vendor product. A media, telco or platform engineering leader leaves with concrete architectures for cutting delivery cost, an early view of immersive and XR system requirements, reproducible open-source implementations they can evaluate directly, and access to the European research groups that supply this specialism's talent.
Event Features
- ✓Research track — paper registration 10 September 2026, submission 17 September 2026
- ✓Open Source Software and Datasets track
- ✓Workshop track with co-located workshops
- ✓Special Session track
- ✓Scope spanning networking, operating systems, real-time systems, databases and distributed computing
- ✓Computer vision and artificial intelligence for multimedia systems
What Makes This Unique
- ★Systems, not models — MMSys publishes the delivery, storage and real-time infrastructure behind multimedia AI, which is the part that actually breaks in production
- ★Runs a first-class Open Source Software and Datasets track, so a substantial share of the reference implementations and public video datasets the industry uses are introduced here
- ★CORE A ranked and interdisciplinary by design, drawing networking, OS, database and computer vision researchers into one room rather than siloing them
- ★Historical acceptance rates and submission statistics are published openly by the steering committee, which is rare and makes the venue's selectivity verifiable
- ★Co-located workshops (including the long-running immersive and virtual environment systems workshop) run alongside the main track
