IEEE IV 2027 - 38th IEEE Intelligent Vehicles Symposium
by IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Society (ITSS)
The IEEE flagship symposium on autonomous driving, perception and vehicle-infrastructure cooperation
About This Event
The 38th IEEE Intelligent Vehicles Symposium (IV 2027) takes place 15-18 June 2027 in Perth, Western Australia, sponsored by the IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Society. IV is one of the two flagship venues, with ITSC, where autonomous driving research is presented and argued over, and the 2027 call for papers spans automated and autonomous vehicles, connected and cooperative vehicles, sensing and perception, datasets, traffic dynamics and efficiency, safety and security, human factors, and regulation and society. Past editions have drawn roughly 1,696 contributed papers from 34 countries across five IEEE Regions, with Germany, China and the USA the largest contributors. The programme combines technical sessions, workshops, tutorials, poster sessions and an exhibition, and plenary keynotes are announced from Christoph Stiller of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and Mark Shand of Waymo.

Topics & Focus Areas
Who Should Attend
- ✓VP of Engineering
- ✓Head of Autonomy / ADAS
- ✓Research Director
- ✓Robotics and perception engineers
- ✓Automotive product leaders
- ✓Transport policy and regulatory staff
Why Attend
For an automotive, logistics, mining or robotics organisation, IV is where perception and autonomy stacks are debated a year or two before they reach product. A VP of engineering leaves with a filtered read on what is actually working in sensing, prediction and cooperative driving, direct contact with the academic groups worth funding or recruiting from, and an exhibition floor of sensor, dataset and simulation suppliers. The Perth location makes it unusually reachable for Asia-Pacific fleet and mining-autonomy programmes, and the separate industry track is a legitimate route to present internal deployment work without writing a research paper.
Event Features
- ✓Automated and autonomous vehicles track
- ✓Connected and cooperative vehicles track
- ✓Sensing and perception track
- ✓Datasets track
- ✓Traffic dynamics and efficiency track
- ✓Safety and security track
- ✓Human factors track
- ✓Regulatory and society track
- ✓Workshops and tutorials programme (proposals due 1 November 2026)
- ✓Industry track, poster sessions and exhibition
What Makes This Unique
- ★One of only two IEEE ITSS flagship venues for intelligent vehicles, so the autonomy work presented here is peer-reviewed rather than vendor-announced
- ★Plenary keynotes already confirmed from Waymo and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, pairing a deployed robotaxi operator with a leading academic group
- ★A dedicated industry track with its own later deadline (15 March 2027), so companies can present deployment experience without a full research paper
- ★First IV held in Western Australia, which puts it within reach of Asia-Pacific mining-autonomy and fleet programmes that rarely travel to European editions
- ★Historic scale of roughly 1,696 contributed papers from 34 countries gives unusually broad coverage of perception and prediction methods
