About This Event

The HPSF Conference 2027 runs 12-16 April 2027 in Montreal, Quebec, hosted by the High Performance Software Foundation, which describes itself as a neutral hub for open source high performance software inside the Linux Foundation. It is the annual gathering of the communities behind the software layer that GPU clusters actually run on: Spack, Kokkos, E4S, Flux Framework, HPCToolkit, Chapel, HPX, Trilinos, AMReX, Apptainer, Charliecloud, OpenCHAMI, Viskores, WarpX, Wi4MPI and Modules. HPSF frames its mission around performance, portability and productivity, and is explicit that AI has changed the compute landscape by normalising accelerated computing for the masses — its E4S project packages software for developing, deploying and running scientific applications on both HPC and AI platforms. The 2027 programme and registration are not yet published.

Who Should Attend

  • HPC and research computing directors
  • AI infrastructure and platform engineers
  • Performance engineers working on accelerated computing
  • Scientific software developers
  • Cluster and systems administrators
  • CTOs at national labs, universities and AI-compute providers

Why Attend

Anyone running or buying a large GPU estate hits the same wall: the hardware arrives and the software stack does not port. This is the conference where that problem is owned. A VP of infrastructure leaves with a concrete answer on how to package and schedule mixed AI and simulation workloads across heterogeneous accelerators, who maintains each component of that stack, and where the portability layer is heading before the next procurement cycle. It is also the shortest path to the people who can fix a blocking bug in Spack, Kokkos or Flux rather than filing a ticket.

Event Features

  • Spack — the package manager used to build and deploy software stacks on supercomputers, Linux and macOS
  • Kokkos — the C++ performance-portability ecosystem for writing hardware-agnostic accelerated code
  • E4S — curated open source packages for developing, deploying and running scientific applications on HPC and AI platforms
  • Flux Framework — modern resource management and scheduling for diverse workloads at scale
  • HPCToolkit — measurement and analysis of program performance from multicore desktops to GPU supercomputers
  • Apptainer and Charliecloud — container runtimes built for HPC's portability and reproducibility constraints
  • OpenCHAMI — cloud-like flexibility and security for HPC system management

What Makes This Unique

  • It convenes the maintainers of the HPC software stack directly — Spack, Kokkos, Flux and E4S in one room — rather than the vendors selling on top of it
  • Neutral ground inside the Linux Foundation, so portability across NVIDIA, AMD and Intel accelerators is discussed on the merits
  • Focused on the unglamorous layer — packaging, scheduling, containers and performance tooling — that decides whether a GPU cluster is actually usable
  • A full five-day format, longer than most vendor conferences, structured around working sessions with project communities rather than only keynotes
