OutSystems Agent Experience
by OutSystems
Governed AI development on OutSystems for Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and Kiro, via MCP
OutSystems Agent Experience (AX) is a platform layer that lets external AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and Kiro build applications on the OutSystems low-code platform under its governance. It is for enterprise IT teams that want developers to use their preferred coding agent without producing ungoverned code in a regulated software estate.
OutSystems Agent Experience, generally available since October 7, 2026 (announced at OutSystems World Tour Las Vegas), opens the OutSystems platform to third-party AI coding agents. Agents connect through standard Model Context Protocol (MCP) services to the Enterprise Context Graph, a live map of an organisation's applications, data, connections, access rights and change history. Agents work at the software design level, shaping application architecture while the platform generates code deterministically, and they can discover and reuse existing logic and trace dependencies before a change. Agents inherit existing enterprise identity and access controls, and the platform applies role-based access control, human approval gates, automated policy checks on high-impact changes and an audit trail of every AI-driven change. Builds can be deployed to public cloud, private cloud, on-premise or hybrid environments, with sovereign deployment aimed at regulated industries. Named agents are Claude Code, Cursor, OpenAI Codex and Kiro; OutSystems also pairs AX with AWS Transform for legacy logic extraction, its own Mentor assistant and Agent Workbench for orchestrating agents. Early users cited by OutSystems include YESCO, which says it cut release cycles to two weeks with Claude Code, law firm Lowenstein Sandler, which built a litigation matter tracker in under three hours, and Danish retailer Normal. OutSystems, founded in Lisbon in 2001 and now based in Boston, competes with Mendix, Microsoft Power Apps and Appian in enterprise low-code.
A CIO or head of application development in a regulated enterprise that already runs OutSystems and wants to allow AI coding agents without losing architectural control.
Developers keep their preferred coding agent while every change stays inside one governed, auditable build and deploy lifecycle.

Key Features
- ✓Bring-your-own coding agent
Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and Kiro can build on OutSystems, so teams keep their chosen agent instead of standardising on one vendor.
- ✓MCP connection to the Enterprise Context Graph
Agents query a live map of apps, data, connections and access rights through standard MCP services, which grounds changes and reduces token use.
- ✓Design-level building with deterministic code generation
Agents shape architecture while the platform generates the code, which aims to cut the fragmented, duplicated code that AI agents produce.
- ✓Dependency tracing and logic reuse
Agents can discover existing components and see downstream impact before a change, protecting against architectural drift across a large estate.
- ✓Governance guardrails and audit trail
Inherited identity controls, RBAC, human approval gates, automated policy checks and a full audit log apply to every AI-driven change.
- ✓Deploy anywhere
Applications run on managed cloud, private cloud, on-premise, hybrid or sovereign cloud, which matters for regulated industries.
Capabilities
Use Cases
- •Faster internal release cycles
YESCO uses Claude Code on OutSystems and reports compressing its software release cycles to two weeks while meeting governance requirements.
- •Legal matter tracking apps
Lowenstein Sandler built a litigation matter tracker in under three hours, with app finishing time dropping from an hour to 5 to 10 minutes.
- •Retail line-of-business apps
Danish retailer Normal had a single developer ship an application in two weeks against an estimate of about six weeks.
- •Legacy modernisation
AWS Transform extracts legacy logic, Kiro defines specs, and the result is built and governed on OutSystems through the same lifecycle.
Ideal For
Best For
- ✓Existing OutSystems customers adding Claude Code, Cursor, Codex or Kiro to their development teams
- ✓Banks, insurers and law firms that need audit trails and approval gates on AI-generated changes
- ✓Legacy modernisation projects that pair AWS Transform and Kiro specs with builds on OutSystems
- ✓Organisations that must deploy on-premise, in a private cloud or in a sovereign cloud
- ✓IT teams worried about duplicated logic and architectural drift from unmanaged AI coding
Not Ideal For
- ✗Startups and small teams; reviewers on PeerSpot cite high cost and unclear licensing that deter smaller organisations
- ✗Teams that want to own plain source code in their own stack; the value of AX depends on committing to the OutSystems platform
- ✗Developers building highly custom systems that outgrow visual low-code, a limit practitioners raise on Hacker News
Deployment
Market Analysis
Pros
- ✓Lets developers keep their preferred coding agent under central governance
- ✓Broad deployment choice including on-premise, private and sovereign cloud
- ✓Mature underlying platform: PeerSpot reviewers cite fast development, many out-of-the-box connectors and strong training resources
- ✓Named customer results at launch across manufacturing, legal and retail
Cons
- ✗PeerSpot reviewers call the platform costly with an unclear licensing model, and no prices are published
- ✗Skilled OutSystems developers are scarce, which reviewers say raises costs and stretches timelines
- ✗Value is tied to the OutSystems platform; Hacker News commenters say visual low-code hits limits as requirements grow
- ✗Launch results come from OutSystems and its customers; IT Brief notes they are not independently verified

OutSystems publishes no prices for the paid platform. It is quoted by Application Objects (screens, database tables and API methods; a medium app is about 150 AOs) plus internal and external end users, with add-ons for extra runtimes, 24x7 support, higher uptime and compliance. The pricing page does not say whether Agent Experience is priced separately. The free Personal Edition is development-only.
