About This Event

ACM UMAP 2027, the 35th ACM International Conference on User Modeling, Adaptation and Personalization, takes place June 9–12, 2027 at the Conviser Law Center (565 W Adams St) in downtown Chicago, home of Illinois Tech's Chicago-Kent College of Law and Stuart School of Business. UMAP describes itself as the premier international conference bringing together research in AI and HCI to support effective human-AI collaboration via interactive systems that can model, adapt and personalize to their users. The 2027 program runs full and short research papers with a rebuttal phase, workshops and tutorials, a doctoral consortium, an industry track, and late-breaking results and demos. General chairs are Yong Zheng (Illinois Institute of Technology) and Konstantin Bauman (Temple University); program chairs are Elisabeth Lex (Graz University of Technology) and Ludovico Boratto (University of Cagliari). The conference is supported by ACM SIGCHI, ACM SIGWEB, the National Science Foundation, User Modeling Inc., Illinois Tech and Springer.

Who Should Attend

  • AI/ML researchers working on personalization
  • HCI and human-AI interaction researchers
  • Heads of AI and data science building personalized products
  • Industry research teams (industry track)
  • Product and analytics leaders
  • PhD students (doctoral consortium)

Why Attend

Personalization is where much enterprise AI spend meets the customer — recommendations, adaptive onboarding, assistants that remember context. UMAP is where the methods behind those systems are peer-reviewed before they reach vendor roadmaps, and its industry track and late-breaking demos put practitioners next to the academic groups doing the work. For a head of AI or product analytics it is a compact four-day read on what actually improves user models and how human-AI collaboration is evaluated, plus a recruiting line into the PhD students of the doctoral consortium.

Event Features

  • Research track: full and short papers (abstracts due Jan 22, 2027; papers Jan 29, 2027)
  • Workshops and tutorials (proposals due Dec 11, 2026)
  • Doctoral Consortium (submissions due Feb 6, 2027)
  • Industry Track (submissions due Mar 22, 2027)
  • Late-Breaking Results (LBR) and Demos (due Mar 22, 2027)
  • Social events program alongside the four-day conference

What Makes This Unique

  • The dedicated international venue for user modeling, adaptation and personalization, now in its 35th edition, sitting at the intersection of AI and HCI
  • Separate Industry Track and Late-Breaking Results & Demos with a late (March 22, 2027) deadline, so practitioner work lands on the same program as peer-reviewed research
  • Full-paper review includes a rebuttal phase (March 2–8, 2027)
  • Hosted by Illinois Tech in downtown Chicago and supported by ACM SIGCHI, ACM SIGWEB and the NSF
