About This Event

MICCAI 2027, the International Conference on Medical Image Computing and Computer-Assisted Intervention, runs 26 September – 1 October 2027 at the New Zealand International Convention Centre in Auckland — the 30th edition of the conference and the first held in New Zealand. Its theme is "From the Pacific to the World: Driving MICCAI's Impact Towards Equitable Healthcare", and the programme is built around healthcare equity, contributions from underserved and Indigenous communities, outcomes for Māori and Pacific peoples, and strengthening regional health-tech ecosystems. Organisers expect close to 3,000 AI researchers, clinicians and biomedical engineers from more than 60 countries, with an estimated NZ$5.7 million economic impact across roughly 15,500 visitor nights. General chairs are Jichao Zhao, Gabor Fichtinger and Stamatia Giannarou, with Alistair Young as main programme chair and Terry Peters as programme chair.

Who Should Attend

  • Health system CIOs and CMIOs
  • Medical device and imaging CTOs
  • Biomedical engineers
  • Radiology and surgical informatics leads
  • Clinical validation and regulatory teams
  • ML engineers in healthcare

Why Attend

Medical imaging AI is the most heavily regulated and most commercially advanced corner of applied machine learning, and MICCAI is where its methods are validated before they reach a regulatory clearance submission. For a health-system CIO, a CTO at a medical-device or imaging vendor, or a head of clinical AI, the conference is the fastest way to separate models with real multi-site evidence from demonstrations, to meet the clinician-researchers who run validation studies, and to recruit from a talent pool combining clinical domain knowledge with deep learning — a pairing that is close to impossible to hire cold.

Event Features

  • Main peer-reviewed technical programme on medical image computing and computer-assisted intervention
  • Satellite workshops, tutorials and grand challenges registered separately, run on the bracketing days as at MICCAI 2026
  • Theme programme on equitable healthcare, Indigenous and underserved communities
  • Bid led by the Auckland Bioengineering Institute at the University of Auckland with Auckland Convention Bureau and Tourism New Zealand Business Events
  • Programme leadership from Alistair Young (University of Auckland / King's College London) and Terry Peters (Western University, Canada)

What Makes This Unique

  • The 30th edition of MICCAI and the first ever held in New Zealand, at the New Zealand International Convention Centre in Auckland.
  • Explicitly themed on healthcare equity — the programme spotlights underserved and Indigenous communities, outcomes for Māori and Pacific peoples, and regional health-tech ecosystems.
  • Close to 3,000 attendees expected from more than 60 countries, with an estimated NZ$5.7 million local economic impact and around 15,500 visitor nights.
  • A clinician-and-engineer programme: MICCAI is where imaging AI is validated against clinical endpoints, not only benchmark datasets.
