About This Event

ISSRE 2027, the 38th IEEE International Symposium on Software Reliability Engineering, runs 19-22 October 2027 at Galaxy Macau in Taipa, Macao SAR China. Sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society and running since 1990, ISSRE is an academic symposium with unusually strong industry participation, covering the reliability, availability, safety, security and quality of software across a four-day multi-track programme with integrated workshops and tutorials. The symposium's current call shows where the field now sits: reliability engineering for AI-enabled, autonomous, self-adaptive and cyber-physical systems; assurance, testing, verification and certification of AI/ML components including foundation and generative models; reliability of AI-generated code, covering validation, explainability and defect analysis; machine learning for defect prediction, anomaly detection and fault localisation; and reliability governance in AI-driven DevOps pipelines. The 2027 edition is chaired by Barbara Gallina (Mälardalen University) and Tao Zhang (Macau University of Science and Technology), with Naghmeh Ivaki and Weiyi Shang leading the research programme; its own call for papers is still a placeholder.

Who Should Attend

  • Heads of Software Quality and SRE
  • VPs of Engineering
  • Platform and DevOps leaders
  • Safety and assurance engineers in regulated industries
  • Software reliability researchers
  • Test automation and verification engineers

Why Attend

If your organisation is putting model-generated code and agentic automation into production, ISSRE is the one venue whose entire purpose is asking whether the result is dependable, and it has been asking that about software since 1990, so the measurement discipline is already built. A platform, SRE or quality leader leaves with evidence on testing and certifying AI/ML components, validating AI-generated code, learning-based self-healing and predictive maintenance, plus an industry track describing what actually failed in production. The multi-track format with workshops and tutorials makes it four working days rather than a conference talk you could have read.

Event Features

  • Research Track chaired by Naghmeh Ivaki (University of Coimbra) and Weiyi Shang (University of Waterloo), call for papers in preparation
  • Industry Track plus a Fast Abstracts and Project Highlights track in the symposium's standing format
  • Replications and Negative Results track
  • Integrated workshops and tutorials across a four-day multi-track programme
  • Topic areas spanning reliability of AI-generated code, assurance of foundation and generative models, and reliability governance in AI-driven DevOps pipelines
  • Hosted at Galaxy Macau, Taipa, with general chairs Barbara Gallina and Tao Zhang

What Makes This Unique

  • A 37-year run since 1990 makes it the longest-standing venue dedicated to software dependability — the measurement discipline predates the AI wave it is now applied to.
  • Academic symposium with deliberate industry participation, including an industry track and fast-abstract/project-highlight sessions alongside peer-reviewed research.
  • Scope is assurance, not enthusiasm: certification and verification of foundation and generative models, and validation of AI-generated code.
  • Four days multi-track with integrated workshops and tutorials rather than a single-track paper recital.
  • First Macao edition, co-chaired locally by Macau University of Science and Technology.
