Global Vision for a Changing Planet: Earth observation, foundation models and agentic AI in Reykjavík
About This Event
IGARSS 2027, the IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, runs from 11 to 16 July 2027 at Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre in Reykjavík, Iceland. The IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society organizes it with the IEEE Iceland Section, and the University of Iceland's Jón Atli Benediktsson, Gabriele Cavallaro and Magnús Örn Úlfarsson serve as general chairs. The 2027 theme is 'Global Vision for a Changing Planet'. AI runs through the technical program: special themes cover agentic AI for Earth observation and foundation models and embeddings, and a general AI and Big Data theme covers large-scale machine learning, on-board edge processing and digital twins. Abstracts and manuscripts are due 11 January 2027.

Topics & Focus Areas
Who Should Attend
- ✓Remote sensing and Earth observation researchers
- ✓Geospatial AI and ML engineers
- ✓Space agency and satellite operator staff
- ✓Climate and environmental data scientists
- ✓Industry representatives from geospatial and satellite companies
- ✓Policymakers working on climate and hazards
Why Attend
For a CTO or head of AI at a satellite, insurance, agriculture, energy or climate-risk company, IGARSS shows how far geospatial foundation models and agentic Earth observation pipelines have actually come. Space agencies, satellite operators and the academic groups building the benchmarks all attend, so it suits sourcing data partners, hiring remote sensing ML talent and checking vendor claims against peer-reviewed results. The full program goes online on 15 May 2027, well before travel has to be booked.
