Use Cases

  • •Enterprise ambient scribe rollout
  • •Clinician burnout reduction
  • •Revenue cycle capture
  • •Clinical trial screening

Ideal For

Best For

  • ✓Large Epic-based health systems rolling out ambient documentation to thousands of clinicians
  • ✓Revenue-cycle teams that want billable, coding-ready documentation captured at the point of care
  • ✓Multilingual patient populations where visits happen in languages other than English
  • ✓CMIOs who need note provenance (Linked Evidence) to support clinician review and audit

Not Ideal For

  • ✗Solo clinicians and small independent practices: there is no public sign-up, self-serve setup or free trial, and deployment is an enterprise integration project
  • ✗Organisations on EHRs other than Epic, which should verify integration depth before shortlisting because Epic is where the integration is deepest
  • ✗Buyers who need published list pricing; costs are enterprise-quoted

Market Analysis

Enterprise-gradeHealthcare-specific

Pros

  • ✓Best in KLAS for ambient AI in 2025 and 2026, based on health-system feedback
  • ✓Proven at very large scale, with more than 100 million clinical conversations a year and system-wide rollouts such as Kaiser Permanente
  • ✓Deep Epic integration and a large reference base including Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins and Duke
  • ✓Linked Evidence gives clinicians a verifiable trail from note to conversation

Cons

  • ✗Not self-serve: no public sign-up, no free trial, and weeks-to-months implementation, which rules out small practices
  • ✗Template customisation is set at deployment time rather than controlled by individual clinicians, and results depend heavily on implementation support
  • ✗Integration is deepest on Epic; the Epic partnership's revenue-sharing ties are flagged by Sacra as limiting strategic freedom
  • ✗No published pricing, and Fortune notes privacy, state consent and liability risks from AI-generated notes entering the medical record

Abridge is an enterprise ambient AI platform that listens to patient-clinician conversations, with consent, and drafts clinical notes, coding and billing documentation in minutes. It is built for health-system CIOs, CMIOs and revenue-cycle leaders who want to cut documentation burden and clinician burnout across thousands of clinicians, primarily on Epic.

Abridge was founded in 2018 by cardiologist Dr. Shiv Rao and has become one of the largest ambient clinical documentation vendors. Its core product records the patient-clinician conversation and generates structured clinical notes, with a Linked Evidence feature that ties each section of the note back to the moment in the conversation it came from so clinicians can verify it. Around that core, Abridge has added revenue-cycle documentation for billing and coding, nursing documentation, clinical decision support that surfaces peer-reviewed evidence in context, and Care Signals that flag addressed conditions, positioning the product as an intelligence layer across the pre-visit, encounter and post-visit phases. It is deeply integrated with Epic, including mobile workflows, and the vendor site lists support for 28 languages. Abridge reports more than 300 health systems live and over 100 million clinical conversations a year; named customers include Kaiser Permanente, Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins, Duke Health, UPMC, Northwestern Medicine and Emory Healthcare. Sacra estimates it reached $100M ARR in May 2025 at roughly $2,500 per clinician per year. It raised a $300M Series E led by Andreessen Horowitz in June 2025 at a $5.3B valuation and a $316M extension in April 2026 at the same valuation, for about $830M raised in total, and in 2026 announced partnerships with NVIDIA on a clinical-conversation foundation model and with Eli Lilly on clinical-trial screening. KLAS named it Best in KLAS for ambient AI in 2025 and 2026. Its main competitors are Microsoft's Dragon Copilot (Nuance DAX), Ambience Healthcare, Suki and Nabla.

Ideal Buyer

A health-system CIO or CMIO running Epic across hundreds or thousands of clinicians who needs to reduce documentation time and burnout at enterprise scale.

Key Benefit

Draft clinical notes, generated from the visit conversation and linked to evidence, that clinicians review and sign instead of typing, which the vendor says saves up to hours a day.

Key Features

  • ✓
    Ambient clinical documentation

Captures the consented patient-clinician conversation and drafts a structured clinical note within minutes, removing after-hours charting.

  • ✓
    Linked Evidence

Maps each part of the generated note back to the source moment in the conversation, so clinicians can verify content before signing.

  • ✓
    Revenue cycle documentation

Produces billable, coding-ready documentation at the point of care; KLAS ranked it #1 for ambient AI in revenue cycle management.

  • ✓
    Clinical decision support

Surfaces context-aware, peer-reviewed evidence during and after the encounter, extending the product beyond transcription into care guidance.

  • ✓
    Nursing documentation

Drafts nursing documentation from conversations, extending ambient capture beyond physicians to the nursing workforce.

  • ✓
    Deep Epic integration

Works inside Epic workflows including mobile, so notes land in the EHR without copy-paste or a separate application.

  • ✓
    Multilingual capture

The vendor lists support for 28 languages, including interpreter scenarios, for health systems serving diverse patient populations.

Capabilities

✗video generation
✗code generation
✓workflow automation
✗api access
✗audio generation
✗fine tuning
✗agent orchestration

Use Cases

  • •
    Enterprise ambient scribe rollout

Kaiser Permanente deployed Abridge to about 24,600 physicians, showing the platform can be rolled out system-wide rather than as a pilot.

  • •
    Clinician burnout reduction

Health systems use ambient notes to cut documentation time; Riverside Health reports a 55% burnout reduction according to the vendor.

  • •
    Revenue cycle capture

Coding-ready documentation generated from the visit helps revenue-cycle teams reduce missed charges and downstream documentation queries.

  • •
    Clinical trial screening

Through its 2026 Eli Lilly collaboration, conversation data is used to identify patients who may qualify for clinical trials.
