IJCAI-27 — International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence 2027
by International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence Organization (IJCAI Inc.)
The flagship general AI research conference, split across Kyoto and Hengqin in August 2027
About This Event
IJCAI-27 is the 2027 edition of the International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence, held in Kyoto, Japan from 7 to 13 August 2027, with a satellite event on Hengqin Island, China from 15 to 17 August 2027. IJCAI is the broadest of the major AI research conferences: unlike NeurIPS or CVPR it is not organised around one subfield, so a single edition covers machine learning, multi-agent systems, knowledge representation and reasoning, planning and search, computer vision, natural language processing, robotics and AI ethics side by side. It is run by IJCAI Inc., a non-profit corporation founded in California in 1969 with a Conference Division and an AI Journal Division; the conference ran biennially in odd-numbered years from 1969 and has been annual since 2016. The two-site structure announced for 2027 is new — the 2026 edition was the joint IJCAI-ECAI conference. As of September 2026 the call for papers has not been released and registration is not open.

Why Attend
If your organisation is building AI rather than buying it, IJCAI is the one conference where you can survey the entire field in a week instead of picking a subfield and hoping it is the right one. A VP of AI comes away with a defensible read on which research directions are maturing toward production and which are still three years out, which matters when you are setting a multi-year platform bet or deciding whether to build an internal research function at all. It is also the most efficient recruiting venue for senior research talent in Asia-Pacific, and the two-site 2027 format puts Kyoto and the Greater Bay Area on one trip.
Event Features
- ✓Main conference in Kyoto, Japan, 7-13 August 2027 (IJCAI's own Future Conferences page)

- ✓An awards programme announced each edition (the IJCAI-2026 awards are published on ijcai.org)
- ✓Call for papers not yet released as of September 2026; IJCAI's three most recent main-track deadlines fell on 23 January 2025, 17 January 2024 and 18 January 2023, per the community deadline tracker
What Makes This Unique
- ★One of the two general-purpose AI conferences (with AAAI) that spans every subfield rather than specialising — useful when you want a read on the whole field, not one corner of it
- ★Runs as a two-site edition in 2027: the main conference in Kyoto (7-13 August) plus a satellite event on Hengqin Island, China (15-17 August), which is a structure IJCAI has not used before
- ★Organised by IJCAI Inc., a non-profit founded in 1969 — the series predates almost every other AI venue and its awards (announced each edition) are among the field's oldest
- ★Announced roughly a year ahead, so the dates and host city are settled long before the conference website, programme or submission portal exist
