About This Event

The 41st IEEE/ACM International Conference on Automated Software Engineering (ASE 2026) runs 12-16 October 2026 at the Holiday Inn Munich - City Center in Munich, Germany. ASE is the principal venue for research on automating software engineering, and with LLM-based coding assistants and autonomous agents now the dominant research subject it has become the most direct read available on whether AI-for-code claims survive peer review. The programme spans thirteen tracks including Research Papers, an Industry Showcase, New Ideas and Emerging Results, Tools and Datasets, Artifact Evaluation, a Doctoral Symposium, a New-Faculty Symposium and a Student Research Competition. Nineteen workshops are co-located, among them AgenticDev on agentic development, MAS-GAIN on multi-agent AI, APR on automated program repair, Harness4GenUI, SECUTE and TRUST. Papers were due 26 March 2026 and camera-ready copy on 3 August 2026.

Why Attend

Every engineering organisation is currently making an expensive bet on AI coding tools with very little independent evidence behind it. ASE is where that evidence is produced: automated program repair, test generation, agentic development and code-quality measurement are all peer-reviewed here, and the Industry Showcase is where companies report what actually happened when they deployed. For a VP of Engineering or CTO, a week in Munich buys a defensible view of what today's tools genuinely automate, what the failure modes look like at scale, and which vendor benchmarks do not survive scrutiny — plus direct access to the researchers building the next generation.

Event Features

  • Research Papers track
  • Industry Showcase track for deployment experience reports
  • New Ideas and Emerging Results (NIER) track
  • Tools and Datasets track
  • Artifact Evaluation track
  • Doctoral Symposium, New-Faculty Symposium and Student Research Competition
  • Co-located AgenticDev, MAS-GAIN, APR, Harness4GenUI, SECUTE and TRUST workshops

What Makes This Unique

  • Forty-one editions deep — the established venue for automated software engineering, jointly sponsored by IEEE and ACM
  • Produces peer-reviewed evidence on AI coding assistants rather than vendor-run benchmarks
  • A dedicated Industry Showcase track, reviewed separately from research papers
  • Nineteen co-located workshops, several created specifically for agentic development and multi-agent AI
  • Artifact evaluation, so tool claims arrive with runnable artifacts a team can try themselves
